Brisbane's Latest Escapades

Look at me, blogging two days in a row.
Brisbane is keeping us on our toes these day.  And when I use 'us' I mean that he literally is a two person job.  In Sacrament meeting he is clearly a three person job because the two of us have not quite figured out how to keep him under control.  Since Mack is out of town, this one person is having a hard time keeping up with the Brisanator!  Plus he has become a bit clingy.  Which means most tasks I accomplish during the day can be done with an almost two year old clinging to my legs, being held in my arms, sitting down with him on my lap, or looking over my shoulder as he destroys something I cleaned up just two minutes earlier.
But he is also oh-so-sweet.  The above book is Richard Scarry's Cars & Trucks & Things that Go.  Grandma gave it to him to torture his parents with making us read all of the words on every page.  For a solid two weeks, Brisbane was obsessed with the book.  He carried it everywhere, and this was often how I would find him. One day I even found him laying on his belly on Jessenia's bed, turning the pages.  I wish I had gotten to my camera fast enough!

Brisbane found the water color paints one day and so I let him have a go.
He is the one that started painting on his face, but he did get a little help with the mustache.  I think it's a good look for him.  He appears less sure.

Science Fair

Reese had a Science Fair at preschool.  I was not sure what to expect but I strapped Brisbane into the stroller and we were off.  There were tables set up with items from all of the different science units that the children had learned about.  Reese took us around to all of the different tables and told us about them.  I was super impressed.  You can tell he really loves science because he was able to explain to me what was going on in the various activities and even understood a lot of the why behind the science.

Reese was also a very good big brother and shared the activities with Brisbane.  Here he is trying to explain to Brisbane about sound.
This picture is kind of creepy.  I *think* that this is a parent or grandparent of one of the other kids in Reese's class (he just switched classes and so I don't know all of the parents as well).  But what in the heck is she doing without her own student?  Instead Reese is playing the water glasses for her and explaining why the pitch changes.

Will it sink or will it float!?
Part way through the Science Fair, Reese's teacher came over to me and told me he was too scared to stand in the bubble.  I told him he should try it.  That he would really like it and it wasn't even scary.  Basically I bullied my own son so that his teacher could get a picture of him inside the bubble.
And he did it!  And he LOVED it!  Just like I knew he would.  Brisbane wanted so desperately to do this one.  But alas.
The circuit table is where I really figured out that I had a major science whiz on my hands.  He understood all about circuits and how to get the lights to work.  That is his sweet teacher, Mrs. Proodian.  Isn't she a gem in her little lab coat?
 Friction races, anyone?
 Cornstarch and water is awesome!
Reese is a bit of a clean freak though, because he kept washing his hands.
Brisbane even got to play with a little piece of slime.
 Kaleidoscopes are fun!
At the end of the fair, Reese was the bell ringer.  Cutest bell ringer I have ever seen.
Reese asks a lot of questions.  Enough to drive his parents crazy.  But his sweet teacher is such a saint.  She often tells me, "I love that he asks so many questions.  He is going to be a scientist or an engineer someday because he is just so curious about how things work."  Well since he still wants to be a city bus driver, we will have to see.

B is for Bubble Bath

In preparation for Reese to attend Kindergarten next year, we are doing activities revolving around a letter a week at our house.  Some weeks are more fun than others and some weeks I do a better job of making the time (aka desperately searching for a spare moment) than others.
Since we have to take baths anyway, it was easy to make one of the baths during B week a special B is for Bubble Bath.

Do you think they like it?  Notice that the first thing they did was give each other Bubble Hats.
 Bubble Hands!
 Bubble Head!
Bubbles Everywhere!
Maybe for M week, we will take a Mud Bath.  On second thought....

Hat Day

My brother, David, recently returned from Afghanistan.  Each of the kids got something that he brought back for Christmas.  Brisbane got his field hat.  I had to do a post about it to show my mother how cute Brisbane is walking around in his hat all day.
It's a little big for him.
 (One sock, eh?)
 GRRRR.  Tough guy!
Reese really wants this hat.  He takes it away from Brisbane all the time.  These kids must really love their Uncle David to wear his smelly hat around all the time.  Truth be told, I think it's pretty cute.

Attack of the Slime Children

To answer all of your questions:  Yes, I know I haven't blogged in a month.  And yes, I am totally embarassed about it.  February has not been my month.  Mack has been out of town doing a rotation and it has just been insane around here.  But I will try to catch up on some of the fun things we did.
One week we made slime.  It was supposed to glow in the dark, but no dice.
The kids really liked it anyway.
And I really liked it becuase it was way less messy than Play-Doh.

I think the goal was to stretch their ball of slime as long as they could.  Reese appears to be winning.
But Jessenia doesn't care.
They played with that goo for well over an hour.  They broke it apart into little pieces and pretended they were cars and people.  It was pretty adorable.  Looking at these pictures makes me think we need to try it again next month...and this time put in more glow in the dark paint!
