Wedding Fun

Last weekend I had the extreme joy of traveling to San Antonio to see one of my dearest childhood friends get married.  I was not only excited to see my friend, Julie, but also it was my first vacation away from the children.  I was of course sad to leave them but looked forward to the break.
From the moment I landed (thanks Travis) I was badgered about blogging about my experiences at the wedding.  I landed on Wednesday and didn't leave until Sunday, so a blow by blow of each day seems unnecesary.  I will however make a list of a few take-away thoughts and lessons learned.
1.  Weddings are fun.  Weddings are not relaxing vacations.  I was more exhausted getting ready for this wedding than I am at home with my kids.  Grown ups don't work naptime into their schedules.  (For those who don't know, I take daily naps.  Always have.  I even took naps in high school.  It is kind of necessary for high functionality.)  We crammed so much action into the days leading up to this wedding that we couldn't even keep straight what day we did what.  It felt like I had already been there a week after the first full day.  So crazy.  But did I mention that weddings are Fun!
2.  Weddings are FUN!  I went into this wedding a tad bit worried.  Julie and I have known each other since preschool but have not lived in the same state since third grade.  As a result I do not know any of her friends (except Travis), had only met her fiance once, and it had been some years since I had seen her parents and sister.  I was worried that I was going to be the dope at the wedding who did not know a soul and sat around looking pathetic all night.  Enter bridesmaids, stage right.  I should have known that because Julie is awesome, she would choose awesome people to be her bridesmaids (I mean, come on, she chose me).  Hilarious group of girls.  I kind of want them to come and live near me.  So.  Much.  Fun.
3.  Weddings are fun.  Things are inevitably going to go wrong in the run up to any wedding.  And those things going wrong are what make the best and funniest stories of the day.  Mack and I still like to talk about my bleeding all over myself when we were trying to cut the cake.  Or when my bouquet and I did not make it to the same place for pictures.  It's all in how you deal with the things that go 'wrong'.  Just make sure you have awesome people around you to laugh it off.  Because wedding are supposed to fun.
4.  Weddings are fun.  It is always good to see people that you haven't seen in years.  I have very fond memories with Julie and her family.  Unfortunately most of those memories involve me as a terribly awkward adolescent.  So it was nice to get to see Julie's parents in my adult years and try to redeem myself for any havoc I may have created in their lives as a child.  Julie's parents were so sweet and I had so much fun with them watching their oldest daughter get married.
5.  Weddings are fun because they remind me of when I got married.  And I LOVE being married.  Unfortunately Mack had medical school testing and the tending of three small children to deal with while I was gone so I had to fly solo for this wedding.  I was sad that he couldn't be there (mostly because I like doing almost everything with him) but it was nice to reflect on the day I got married and how much I love the man I married.  If you know Mack, you know he is the nicest guy ever and that I am incredibly lucky and blessed to be married to him.  And that was reiterated as I watched another couple in love take their vows.  Being married is fun!
Congratulations Julie and Jason and thanks for letting me be a part of it!  I love you both!

"Porn"

It would not be unusual for Brisbane to come up to me at any given moment and say, "Mom, I want porn".
Now before we all get nervous about the moral compass in my household, let's remember that Brisbane is only two.  We are still working on certain areas of his speech.  Pronouncing multi-syllabic words is a bit of a problem for him.  Combine that with his new love affair of popcorn, and we have a slight problem.
My mother introduced him to the joys of popcorn at Target and now he can't get enough of it.  He walks around asking for "porn" all the time.
We realized that this was not just cute but a real problem when in nursery on Sunday he asked for the "Porn Song".  Gives a whole new meaning to "Popcorn Popping" doesn't it!?
So now we are giving him some intense speech therapy in an attempt to at least pronounce this one word correctly.  I think we are making good progress.  Just don't be alarmed if he asks you for "porn" and know that he likes it salted and with butter.

My Readership

In the past month, I have had several family members and friends comment on the absence of my blogging.  I don't know what I was thinking starting a blog with three small children running around.  Initially I started the blog to record my own thoughts and feelings about this crazy time in our lives.  But I have recently learned that people actually find what I write entertaining.  A few examples:
1.  My sister has informed me that she has a friend at Ohio State who reads my blog.  This friend has also referred her mother to my blog.  I am impressed that people who don't even know me are suggesting my blog to other people who don't even know me.  That's kind of like being famous, right?
2.  I was out of town last weekend and was mercilessly harassed by some very well intentioned friends of mine about needing to blog about every moment of the festivities.  I had no idea that my thoughts on the matter would be so highly sought.
So here I am with all this added pressure of not just recording my own thoughts but trying to be entertaining in the process.
To all of you who still read, thanks for hanging around through the slow months.  And be sure to tell your friends.  Because if there is one thing that makes me like people, it is when they think I am funny and then go and tell other people how funny I am.  Enjoy!
